Mangaluru: Major Siddalingaiah Hiremath who was recently appointed as the new Commissioner of Pilikula Development Authority has still not taken charge.

Hiremath was ordered to be commissioned by the State Government on October 12. He was ordered to take charge immediately keeping in mind the public and administrative interests.

Pilikula Nisargadhama was earlier managed by the project director. However, the Pilikula Development Authority with the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada as its chairperson came into effect from April 1.  A full time commissioner was also appointed but even after 25 days of his appointment, he has still not taken charge.

Hiremath was working as the Additional Commissioner of Public Education Department at Dharwad.

It is said that nine academic districts were under the additional commissioner of public instruction, Dharwad. Several complaints were registered against Hiremath accusing him of dictatorship. In January 2021, he was transferred but he got the order cancelled and continued in that post.

However, Chairman of the legislative council, Basavaraj Horatti, C C Patil wrote to the government stating that there are complaints against Hiremath and he must be transferred.  Horatti hoped that he would work well as the commissioner of Pilikula Nisargadhama.

Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner, Dr Rajendra K V, said that Pilikula Nisargadhama Authority is being run out of corporate social responsibility funds from MRPL and other companies and currently there are no grants.

He said that the new commissioner must take charge immediately and undertake developmental works.
