Mangaluru: Lina, the 8-year-old bomb detection canine of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), died on Sunday. The Labrador was an expert at detecting explosives and was one of the top dogs of the canine squad working at the Mangalore International Airport (MIA).

Lina was laid to rest with military honors at the MIA premises on Sunday.

Lina rose to fame on January 12, 2020, when she detected the explosives planted at MIA allegedly by Aditya Rao.  Explosive detection rounds are carried out by the dog squad every hour at the airport.

In February this year, Lina was diagnosed with a kidney-related ailment. She died due to complications from the disease in the early hours of Sunday, sources said.

Born on May 5, 2013, Lina received training in sniffing out explosives at Ranchi, before being attached with the CISF dog squad at MIA.

Her CISF handlers say that Lina was the smartest and the most active of the four in the dog squad. Though her official documents name her as ‘Lina’, The CISF personnel fondly called her ‘Dollly’.

In view of her illness, another dog had been added to the airport dog squad division and is being trained in Ranchi.
