Consumers beware! Fake ‘Nandini Ghee’ racket busted in Mysuru

Mysuru: A criminal network peddling fake ghee by misusing KMF’s popular “Nandini Ghee” brand was unearthed here on Thursday, December 16.
Spurious ghee was being manufactured and packed as “Nandi Ghee” at a warehouse in Hosahundi village on the foothills of Chamundi Hills near the city. A city-based human rights organization, under the leadership of Pradeep, raided the unit.
It was found that cheap palm oil (locally known as dalda) was being mixed with ghee. The adulterated product was then packaged in packets identical to the popular “Nandini” brand and shipped all over the state.
Soon after the discovery of the unit, Mysore Milk Union Ltd (MyMul) Managing Director B N Vijayakumar inspected the spot where fake Nandi Ghee was being manufactured.
Police and food safety officials also conducted a check at the unit and confiscated adulterated ghee, “Nandini” labels, Packaging machine from the site. Further investigations are ongoing.
