Bengaluru: RTI activist arrested for allegedly obstructing govt work, threatening public servant

Bengaluru: An RTI activist was arrested on charges of obstructing government operations and threatening a public servant, police said.

RTI activist Krishnamurthi Gowda was arrested based on a complaint filed by an Assistant Engineer at a BBMP ward in Girinagar at the
Chennamanakere Achukattu Police Station.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that the accused came to the office claiming to be an RTI activist and a news reporter and demanded to now unrelated information.  Even after politely refusing to give such details, the accused hounded the woman officer on many occasions.

The woman officer also alleged that Krishnamurthi followed her around when she went out on official work.

On the evening of December 18, when the woman officer was attending an official meeting with a consultant named Rudresh, the accused barged into her cabin and used abusive and insulting language without provocation, the complaint mentions.

The accused has been arrested based on the complaint and is being questioned to establish the veracity of the allegations, police said.
