Koragajja incident at Salethur: Groom releases video apology for the incident

Vitla: A video showing apology of the Muslim groom who dressed as ‘Koragajja Daiva’ during his wedding celebrations has surfaced.
The video shows, Umarul Basit who has been absconding since a police complaint was registered against him and others, apologizing from an unknown location in Kerala and expressing regret over his actions.
“I and my friends in our excitement dressed up just for fun. We did not intend to hurt or insult any community, god, or anyone’s faith. I had no intention of insulting the Muslim community,” Basit says in the video.
Further, he says, “I and my friends have respect for all religions. I apologize if any hurt that is caused”
Basit was dressed as ‘Koragajja Daiva’ during his wedding celebrations at Kolnadu village, Salethur, Bantwal Taluk. The video of the incident went viral and drew the ire of many for insulting one of the most revered daiva of Tulunadu. The groom’s side were seen dancing on the road and the groom was dressed up as ‘Koragajja daiva’. He was seen wearing an areca nut leaf cap and also had smeared black ink on his face.
The incident was condemned by not only the Hindu organizations but several Muslim organizations too urged the concerned officials to take strict action against the culprits.
