Belagavi: Parents blamed a botched-up rubella vaccination for the death of three babies, just days after being vaccinated. Health authorities said the infants had received the jab at their respective village health camps but died days later at BIMS Hospital.

One baby out of the four that were vaccinated on January 11 in Mallapur village and 2 babies out of the 21 from Bochabala village in Ramdurg taluk here, that received the jab died mysteriously, the health authorities said.

The infants were identified as Pavitra Halagur (13 months), Madhu Umesh Karagundi (14 months), and Chetan Pujari (15 months). They were admitted at the Belagavi BIMS Hospital in Ramadurga Taluk for treatment, officials said.

After receiving the rubella shots, the babies developed symptoms of severe vomiting and diarrhea and were rushed to the hospital.

However, the authorities said the exact cause of the deaths is not known.

Meanwhile, a postmortem investigation has been ordered into the deaths of three children to ascertain the exact cause of the death. However, the distraught parents are inconsolable at the tragic death of their children.
