Udupi: Girl approaches K’taka HC for her ‘Right to wear Hijab’ in classroom

Bengaluru: The dispute over allowing Hijab in classrooms at a college in Udupi has reached the Karnataka High Court.

Six girl students of government girls PU college in Udupi district have been boycotting classes for over a month now as the college authorities refused permission for them to wear hijab inside classrooms.

One of the aggrieved girls has knocked on the High Court’s door pleading to declare wearing Hijab as a Fundamental Right under articles 14 and 25 of the Indian Constitution.

The petition is yet to be heard by the court. The petition asserts that the college administration has infringed on the constitutionally guaranteed rights of the girl by disallowing her to attend classes for wearing hijab in the classroom.
