The Kashmir Files: Kerala Congress tweets “alternate facts”; faces flak

Just as the movie ‘The Kashmir Files,’ depicting the exodus of Kashmir Pandits from their homeland, hit the screens across the nation Kerala Congress made a series of tweets about the alternate “facts” about the incident. The tweets blaming the “terrorism” and the BJP for the exodus whipped up a storm of reactions on social media.
On Sunday, March 13, Kerala Congress tweeted on its official handle: “Facts about #KashmiriPandits issue: After the terrorist attacks, instead of providing Pandits security, BJP’s own governor Jagmohan asked them to relocate to Jammu. A large number of Pandit families did not feel secure and left the valley in fear.”

In another tweet, the Congress alleged that Pandits left the Valley under the direction of Jagmohan who was an RSS man. “BJP was engineering a Hindu-Muslim divide in the country over the Ram Mandir issue in Ayodhya during the migration. Pandits’ issue suited BJP’s propaganda to create a fake outrage for electoral gain,” the Kerala Congress had tweeted.

The tweets were later deleted, but not before there was severe criticism from all quarters.
However, on Monday, the Kerala Congress posted another clarification on the removal of its earlier tweets. “We stand by every single fact in yesterday’s tweet thread about the #KashmiriPandits issue. However, we have removed a part of the thread, seeing BJP hate factory taking it out of context and using it for their communal propaganda. We will continue to speak out the truth,” the Kerala Congress said.
The BJP strongly criticized the Kerala Congress party’s “insane statements”  and said that it was propagating the “distorted version of history.”
“Congress and its allies created a situation in which the pandits couldn’t live anymore; they were murdered, there was a genuine fear for their lives, so they left…things have improved dramatically after the revocation of Article 370,” News agency ANI quoted Kerala BJP leader KJ Alphons as saying.
He further pointed the blame at the Congress for the exodus by saying  “Everyone knew that over 1.5 lakh Kashmiri Pandits were driven out on communal grounds, by the ruling dispensation, which was Congress or its supported governments,” the report added.
