Mangaluru: Son held guilty for father’s murder

Mangaluru: The fourth district and sessions court on Thursday convicted a youth in connection with his father’s murder in January 2021.

The convict Harish Poojary (28) had brutally assaulted his father Sridhar Poojary (56), a resident of Beltangady with a wooden log following a verbal confrontation between the two.

Court judge Justice B R Pallavi examined eleven witnesses and 29 documents before pronouncing her judgement in the case. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced during the next hearing.

As per the police chargesheet, Sridhar was opposed to Harish’s relationship with a girl belonging to the other caste. Further, he had stated that Harish should wait to tie the knot until his sister’s marriage. An enraged Harish eloped with his lover in January 2021. He returned home with her three weeks later but his father refused to allow them inside the house.

On the day of the incident (January 18), he and Sridhar got into a verbal confrontation in the afternoon hours and Harish threatened to kill his father. Later in the day, Harish assaulted his father with a wooden log, A seriously injured Sridhar succumbed to his wounds on the spot.

Beltangady police registered a case and a chargesheet was filed by inspector Sandesh in the case.
