Now tourists visiting Malpe beach can enjoy the experience of walking on waves. Yes, you read that right. In a bid to promote tourism a floating bridge has been installed at the beach which will allow visitors to enjoy the ocean waves.
The bridge was inaugurated by Udupi MLA K Raghupathi Bhat.
The 100-meter long and 3-meter wide bridge has been made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) blocks that float on water. The bridge can be easily relocated as it is not a permanently attached structure.
At a time, 100 visitors will be allowed to walk on the bridge and 10 lifeguards will be deputed to provide security to tourists. Each tourist will be allowed to stay on the bridge for 15 minutes.
The new attraction hopes to provide the visitors with a unique marine experience where they can seek adventure while being safe.
Those above five years of age can pay Rs 100 and have the experience of the sea for 15 minutes. A boat will always be near the bridge and also 30 lifebuoy rings will be on the bridge.
The project was taken up by the team from Hanuman Vittoba Bhajan Mandali and the priority has been given to the security of visitors. The bridge has been put up at a cost of Rs 80 lakh and will be open from 9 am to 6 pm.
The project is supported by Sudhesh Shetty, leaseholder, Malpe Beach and proprietor, Dial Mantra; Shekar Puthran, businessman and Dhananjaya Kanchan, president, Ayyappa Swamy Temple, Malpe.
After the monsoon, there are plans are to extend the length of the bridge by another 50 metres.
