Mangaluru: A court here ordered a man to pay the money owed to an organization or face jail term in a cheque bounce case.
The case pertained to the three cheques given by defendant Manjunatha Kharvi to the Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi District Cooperative Fish Marketing Federation. The federation claimed the defendant owed it Rs 88 lakhs and the cheques were received as repayment. However, the cheques bounced when they were deposited at the bank.
After the defendant failed to repay the amount even after serving a notice, the federation filed a plaint to recover the amount.
The fifth district and sessions court in Mangaluru heard the case and ordered Kharvi to return the money owed or serve a six-month jail term.
