Patna: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party in Bihar has suffered a major setback, as four out of five MLAs have joined Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
AIMIM MLAs namely Shahnawaz, Izhar, Anjar Nayani, and Syed Rukundin have stepped out, leaving alone its state president and MLA Akhtarul Iman. By this, the RJD has become the single largest party with 79 seats out of 243 assembly seats. Meanwhile, BJP has dropped to the second position with 77 seats.
As per the reports of news agency IANS, the AIMIM MLAs came in contact with the RJD, apprehending their future, especially after the party’s disastrous performance in the recent 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. They feel that the Bihar electorate might show similar trends during the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
It can be noted that AIMIM supremo Asaduddin Owaisi had fielded candidates in more than 90 seats in UP, but was swept against BJP’s CM Yogi Adityanth’s wave. None of the candidates had won, resulting in only a 0.4 vote share.
