Shivamogga: The district administration has clamped restrictions on vehicular movement on the Agumbe Ghat till July 12, 8 AM, due to a landslide.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Selvamani R, on Sunday, passed orders stating that there would be no vehicular movement on the ghats till July 12, 8 AM. From July 12 till 30, only light motor vehicles would be allowed. In the meantime, heavy motor vehicles are directed to travel through an alternative route.

The alternative routes are Thirthahalli -Koppa-Sringeri-Karkala-Mangaluru, Thirthahalli -Agumbe-Sringeri-Karkala-Mangaluru, and Thirthahalli- Masthikatte -Kundapur.

Earlier, on Saturday night a landslide had occurred on the third and fourth hairpin curve of the Agumbe Ghat. This had led to the sliding of a huge amount of trees and mud onto the roads, thus creating traffic congestion.

Although the concerned officials were working towards clearing the roads, continuous rains have affected the operations.
