Belthangady: Chess player Isha Sharma scores maiden IM and WGM-norm

Isha Sharma, Karnataka’s first and only WOman International Master (WIM), earned her maiden IM (International Master) and Woman Grand Master (WGM)-norm at the Slovakia Open Piestany 2022 which ended on July 18.

Isha Sharma earned her maiden IM and WGM-norm with the aid of using scoring 5/9 with an overall performance of 2453. Her live rating is now 2295.2, said a news bulleting on Karnataka State Chess Association (KSCA) website.

In the third round, Isha Sharma, playing with the black pieces, beat Polich GM Krasenkow Michal.

Sharma, who is trained by FIDE coach K Vishveshwaran, is Karnataka’s first and only WIM so far. She is pursuing her degree in Economics from the SDM College in Ujire, Dharmasthala.
