Bhatkal: 4 dead in landslide caused by torrential rains

Bhatkal: The bodies of four persons trapped under the debris of a landslide here caused by incessant rainfall were recovered on Tuesday.
The victims, identified as Lakshmi Narayana Naik, Ananta Naik, Praveen Naik, and Lakshmi Naik, were sleeping inside the house, when the hillock suddenly collapsed on them. Though rescue operations began immediately after, they could not be saved.
The District Commissioner has pressed NDRF into action for search and rescue operations. Many resident in Shirali, who are at risk of a landslide, have been shifted to safer places.
The torrential rains wreaked havod in the district, with many places inundated by storm water.
District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary and Labour Minister Shivaram Hebbar will be arriving in Bhatkal to take stock of the flood-affected areas, sources said.
