Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has directed the concerned officials to take precautionary measures towards controlling the spread of monkeypox.

Addressing the high-level meeting on Tuesday, he directed the officials saying, “In the wake of six monkeypox cases reported in the state, testing must be carried out in the airports. As per the guidelines issued by the Centre, a person found positive for monkeypox shall be quarantined for 21 days”

“Private institutions that can provide treatment for monkeypox must be identified. Medical and para-medical staff must be trained. Public awareness must be created” he added.

Speaking on the monkeypox reports he said, “For every three persons, two are found negative. We are waiting for the report of a person from Uttara Kannada district, who had returned from Belgium, recently”.

Meanwhile, the officials informed CM Bommai that E D Hospital in Bengaluru and Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru were identified as quarantine centres.

State Health Minister Dr. Sudhakar, Chief Secretary Vandita Sharma, Commissioner of Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Department D. Randeep, and other officials were present.
