Mangaluru/Udupi: The low-pressure area developing in the Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into a cyclone in the next three days, the Indian Meteorological Department said. A red alert has been issued for the Karavali coast on August 7 and an “Orange Alert” has been announced for August 8 and 9.
As the sea is likely to be rough, the Joint Director of Fisheries has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea and has advised boats to rereturn to shore immediately.
On Saturday, good rainfall was observed in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts. Rains continued in Mangaluru city throughout the day on Saturday. It also rained in Puttur, Uppinangady, Kadaba, Subrahmanya, Sullia, Belthangady and other parts of the district.
Parts of Udupi, Brahmavara, Hebri, and Karkala received heavy rainfall. The torrential rainfall inundated agricultural land and low-lying areas.
Orphaned boat found
Katapadi: A small fishing boat was found abandoned on the sea shore near Bhubaneswari Bhajan Mandir in Udyavara Padukare on Saturday. Local fishermen pulled the boat up. It is suspected that a moored boat may have been washed away by the sea swell.
