Shivamogga: Two wild elephants were electrocuted to death at Anesara near Ayanur in Shivamogga district on Sunday.

Two male elephants, aged around 20 years, were killed after they came in contact with a fence erected around a field growing maize at Anesara near Chennahalli. The area is close to the Shettihalli Sanctuary.

The farmer, identified as Chandra Nayak, had provided electricity to the fence on his farm to prevent wild animals from destroying crops.

Meanwhile, forest officials have taken Chandra Nayak into custody for causing the death of elephants.

Sources said that a herd of seven elephants had migrated from the Bhadra Wildlife range and were camping in the Shettihalli forests.
