Mangaluru: The process of handing over the documents from the city police to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which took over the investigation into the Mangaluru cooker blast case, continued even on Friday.
Meanwhile, the NIA has asked for a team of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) to replace the local police deployed for the security of suspected militant Mohammed Shariq, who is recuperating in a private hospital.
The NIA is yet to begin the formal interrogation of Shariq and it is likely to do so after the handover of evidence is completed, sources said.
The NIA team consisting of 6 officers will be joined by two more teams to carry forward the investigation.
Meanwhile, Shariq is being treated for burns and doctors have opined that it may take months for him to be released from the hospital, which has led to some delay in interrogation. Sources said that there is a possibility that the NIA will continue the investigation in Manglauru or shift him to a hospital in Bengaluru or Delhi.
