Mangaluru Compol issues guidelines for 2023 New Year celebrations

Mangaluru: With a view to maintaining law and order in the city during the 2023 new year celebrations, City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar has issued strict guidelines for the public, hotels, restaurants, clubs, resorts, and associations to follow.
All hotels, restaurants, clubs, resorts, and associations in the city that plan on holding New Year celebrations have been asked to submit applications for necessary permissions before 5 pm on December 15. Failing to do so, legal actions will be initiated against them, Kumar said.
Further, the police commissioner said that the sound systems of all programs should stop latest by 10 pm.
Restaurants and hotels that hold a liquor license and intend to distribute liquor on New Year’s eve beyond the time fixed by the government, must obtain written permission from the Excise Department for it. Serving liquor cannot extend beyond 11 pm despite obtaining written permission from the Excise Department, he added.
Action against misbehaving
The police commssioner also warned strict action against those found misbehaving in public during the celebrations. Smoking and drinking alcohol are strictly prohibited in public spaces including bus stands, public parks, stadiums, railway stations, and the like.
Party organizers must take precautionary measures to avoid any untoward incidents. Separate parking arrangements must be made. Parking vehicles on roads will not be allowed, he said.
Further, liquor can be served only to persons above the age of 18 years. Entry to celebratory programs shall be denied to persons below 18 years of age unless they are accompanied by parents.
