ZP, TP election delay: K’taka HC fines state govt

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High court has fined the state government for delaying the taluk and Zilla panchayats elections.
The Karnataka High Court granted an extension of 90 days to the Karnataka Panchayat Raj Delimitation Commission for completing the exercise of delimitation of wards in the taluk and Zilla panchayats and also complete the exercise for providing reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBC) and other categories within the said period.
The court further said that Rs 5 lakh fine amount should be submitted before January 28, 2023. Of which Rs 2 lakh is to be deposited with the Karnataka State Legal Service Authority, Rs 2 Lakh with the Advocates Association of Bengaluru, and Rs 1 lakh with the Advocates Clerks Welfare Association.
