Man loses over Rs 2L to unknown caller claiming to be his uncle

A Manipal resident has filed a case against an unknown caller who allegedly defrauded him of over Rs 2 lakh after claiming to be his uncle.

The victim Chitrang Juniwal, in his complaint stated that he received a call from an unknown person who said that he was his uncle and that his father gave him his phone number.

The man said that he had mistakenly deposited Rs 25,000 to his account and told him to return the money through PayTM.

An unsuspecting Chitrang did as told and transferred the amount via PayTM. However, the person kept calling stating that he did not get the credit and Chitrang ended up transferring nearly Rs 2.13 lakhs, the complaint stated.

A case of cheating has been registered at CEN crime police station.
