Mangaluru: Actor and director Rishab Shetty on Sunday said that to show our culture in a better way one needs to be micro-connected with it.

Shetty participated in the final session on ‘Cinema and culture – when local is universal’ at the Mangaluru Lit Fest at TMA Pai convention center, in Mangaluru on Sunday.

Speaking during the event, Rishab Shetty stressed the need for stories to be told from various regions of Karnataka, claiming that locals are better suited to capture the spirit of their traditions and culture, which will undoubtedly be recognized worldwide.

The beauty of Kannada, according to him, is the way the dialect varies every 20 kilometers. “Each of these dialects has its particular sweetness, which people relate to better,” he added.

He further said, ” The works of writers such as Da Ra Bendre and Shivaram Karanth have been well received since they are written in a native style.”

Mr. Shetty also revealed that he has begun working on a Kantara sequel. “It’s a really long story. I am working on the sequel at my leisure,” he said.

Actor and playwright Prakash Belavadi said, ” Earlier, only certain art films received global recognition through film festivals. But, now micro local cinema is also creating a worldwide impact (Kantara).”

Filmmaker and writer Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari said that she always encourages young writers to write in the language they are most comfortable with. “Do not be afraid to write films in your own language,” she urged, adding that dubbing allows people to understand the essence of a film in their own language. “It is important to share stories about culture with today’s youth, who are proud of their heritage,” Iyer said.

Actor Malavika Avinash led the session.

The fifth edition of the Mangaluru Literary Festival organized by the Bharat foundation at the TMA Pai convention center concluded on Sunday. A total of 25 sessions were held on both days, including 8 seminars on Sunday.
