Kundapura: Newly elected MLA from Byndoor, Gururaj Gantihole has raised the issue of “exorbitant fees” charged for marks sheet verification by Mangalore University.
In a series of tweets on May 18, Gantihole highlighted the reality of the lack of uniformity in fees charged by universities across Karnataka. Of them all, Mangalore University is charging the highest fees i.e. around Rs 1,500 for each marks card, he said.
To secure a job, all graduates are required to get their marks sheets verified by the universities. A graduate of a 6-semester degree course from Mangalore University has to pay a total of Rs 10,800 including all charges, he said.
In comparison, Tumkur University charges the lowest fees among all varsities in Karnataka, at only Rs 501 for getting all 6-semester marks sheets verified, he added.
“It is very difficult for lakhs of students from coastal areas & those who studied in Mangalore University and children from poor families,” Gantihole tweeted.
He requested the Mangalore University Vice Chancellor to rationalize the fees for the benefit of lakhs of students of the varsity.
