Sirwar (Raichur): Tensions flared in the town after miscreants placed a garland of shoes on a nameplate bearing Tipu Sultan’s name on Tuesday night. Protestors blocked the main road and expressed their anguish on Wednesday.

A garland of slippers was found on the name board at the Tipu Circle near the town’s mutton market on Wednesday morning. As the news spread, a large crowd of protestors gathered. The mob burnt tyres and blocked the main road to express their anguish.

Tehsildar Ravi S visited the incident site and tried to the angry protesters. CC cameras will be installed in all circles of the town, he said. The police also promised to arrest the accused within 24 hours.

The protest was withdrawn after a flower garland was placed on the name plaque.

MLA G Hampayya Nayak also rushed to the scene and appealed for maintaining peace.  He said that the police had been asked to arrest the accused immediately.
