‘Watt lag gaya’: Rohit Sharma’s stump-mic banter – A hit with fans, a nightmare for his voice

Rohit Sharma seems to have a special relationship with stump microphones – they’re like his shadow, always sticking close by. During the Visakhapatnam Test against England, Rohit’s voice seemed to be on a solo mission to hog the limelight.

In one memorable moment, Rohit cautioned his teammates, in his own unique style, not to “stroll around in the garden.” But the real showstopper was when he confessed to almost losing his voice from all the yelling while directing the players. “Mere gale ka watt lag gaya hai chilla chilla ke tum logo ko,” he lamented, which roughly translates to “I’m losing my voice screaming at you guys.”

But hey, his vocal gymnastics seemed to do the trick, as India managed to wrap up England’s second innings for 292, securing a victory by 106 runs and leveling the series. Rohit may not have been in his best form with the bat, but leading the team to victory without star players like KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Virat Kohli deserves a round of applause.

And let’s not forget his on-field antics! When Kuldeep Yadav was dead sure about a DRS call, Rohit decided to play hard to get, refusing to budge. Later, he couldn’t resist a sarcastic slow clap when the big screen proved Kuldeep wrong. But karma works fast in cricket, and the very next day, Kuldeep’s persuasion skills paid off, earning India a crucial DRS decision.

In between all the drama, Rohit found time to crack jokes with umpires and engage in some friendly banter. And while he was pleased with India’s overall performance, he couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at the team’s second-innings batting collapses. It seems like some of the players are still getting their feet wet in this format.

All in all, it was another day in the office for Rohit Sharma – leading, shouting, joking, and, of course, winning. Let’s see what antics he pulls off in the next match!
