Mangaluru: A significant piece of history and legend has been lost as the Takode tree, a revered symbol of heritage at Kinnigoli, was uprooted on Friday.
This ancient tree, estimated to be between 800 and 1000 years old, is considered the birthplace of Sri Kanthabare and Boodabaare, the legendary figures of Kollur of Mulki taluk in the region’s folklore.
The Kanthabare-Boodabare twins are celebrated as renowned warrior lieutenants of the Mulki Savantha kings, their valor echoing through the annals of history. Legend has it that a cloth was strung onto the western branch of the Takode tree as a makeshift cradle for the twins right after their birth.
