Alarming Rise in Infectious Diseases in Karnataka Amid Advent of Rainy Season

Bengaluru: With the advent of monsoon season and changes in the climatic conditions, the number of infectious diseases is rising at an increasing rate in Karnataka state. For the past two to three weeks most of the public hospitals in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Mysuru, Bagalkot, Bengaluru and other districts have flooded with patients suffering from infectious diseases including malaria, H1N1, dengue, normal viral fevers, cold, cough and others.

The fevers cases including malaria, chikungunya, dengue, H1N1 are on rise this year and as many as 15 patients died following H1N1 in the last 6 months and a total of 2211 patients confirmed with H1N1 this year, according to the data from state health department.

As many as 1512 patients have been confirmed with dengue this year out of which Mysuru district reported highest number of dengue cases (170) followed by Udupi (149), Davanagere (138) and Mandya (102). A total of 304 people have also identified with chikungunya fever until June 2017.

The number of rat fever incidents is also on rise in Chikkamagaluru, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga and Uttara Karnataka.

According the data by Karnataka state health department as many as 1672 malaria cases have been identified this year until June. Out of 1672 malaria cases, Dakshina Kannada district recorded highest number of cases (1046) followed by Udupi (111), Gadag (65), Koppal (59) and Bagalkot (50) districts.
