Gauri Lankesh Murder case: CM Siddaramaiah orders SIT probe

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah condemned the death of senior journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh and said it “is an assassination on democracy”.
“Absolutely shocked to learn about the murder of renowned journalist Gauri Lankesh. I have no words to condemn this heinous crime,” Siddaramaiah tweeted.
“In fact, this is an assassination on democracy. In her passing, Karnataka has lost a strong progressive voice, and I have lost a friend,” he added.
Siddaramaiah has ordered the formation of Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by IG level officer to crack the murder case.
He said that the SIT team will be given a helping hand to take as many police personnel as required.
He also said that if Lankesh’s family insist on CBI probe, then the government will go ahead with CID.

Journalists and common people have come out in open condemning and expressing shock over the incident.
Journalists from across the country have also come together demanding a speedy and transparent probe on the issue.
