PIL Filed Before High Court after BBMP Used JP Park Area to Construct Indira Canteen

Bengaluru: A social activist filed public interest litigation (PIL) before Karnataka high court after state government and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) have allegedly violated high court’s previous directive which denied permission to construct bunch of Indira Canteens at open places, gardens, parks, play grounds and others.
According to petitioner, Ravikumar, BBMP is all set to start Indira Canteen at Jayaprakash Narayan Park located at BBMP ward number 17 in the state capital. The park located at Mathikere is spread on area of 85 acre land and has 250 different verities of trees and plants.
Earlier, the petitioner had submitted a detailed request to BBMP and urged to relocate the proposed canteen as the area belongs to the park. However, BBMP allegedly neglected the request and has made all arrangements to inaugurate the canteen on October 2.
