Retd PDO, secretary get jail term on bribery case

Mangaluru: Sessions court has awarded one-year jail term and a fine of Rs.5000 on a retired panchayat development officer (PDO) and secretary of the panchayat who were found guilty on bribery allegations against them.
The two will have a serve jail term for three months if they fail to pay the penalty.
The two have been booked under Section 7 and Section 13 (1) (d) of the prevention of corruption act.
It has been reported that Savithri and her secretary, Aboobacker had demanded bribe of Rs.3000 from a person who approached them to get a door number for his house. The victim had approached the Lokayukta and complained on the same.
The Lokayukta had caught the two red-handed in 2012.
The duo had been arrested in an operation launched by the then Lokayukta inspector, Umesh G Shet. Special public prosecutor, K S N Rajesh,had presented the case on behalf of Lokayukta.
