Bengaluru: Two Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) employees, were allegedly assaulted by a group of unidentified men for professedly being late in taking care of a power cut complaint at Marenahalli on Friday night.

The police have identified the victims as Y. Sridharamurthy and Dilip Kumar.

As indicated by the police, the two workers were going on a maintenance work at Hosur Road around 10 p.m. when they got a message from Assistant Executive Engineer H.M. Umesh requesting that they go to Marenahalli as an electrical cable had snapped.

Prior, Umesh had received a complaint from Ramamurthy, a local BJP leader and spouse of the councillor of Pattabhirama Nagar ward. As the duo started inspecting the area, a group of men assaulted them, abusing for coming late. Hearing the confusion, residents surged out of their homes, yet stayed calm as the group kept on assaulting the duo. The injured workers managed to contact Umesh, who filed complaint at the Jayanagar police station.

The Jayanagar police have filed a case under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 323 (assault) and 149 (unlawful assembly) against the miscreants.
