Bengaluru: KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research, Belagavi and four other higher education foundations in Karnataka were on Tuesday conceded greater academic and financial autonomy by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
With this, these colleges don’t need to look for the UGC’s authorization any longer for activities extending from beginning new projects, opening open and distance learning programs, procuring foreign faculty and taking in foreign students.
The UGC put them in the list of category II of organizations qualified for evaluated autonomy as indicated by new directions informed by the higher education controller as of late.
Jain University, Bengaluru; Manipal Academy of Higher Education; University of Mysore; and JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru are the other four foundations in Karnataka conceded autonomous.
An aggregate of 25 colleges, including Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi and University of Hyderabad, were put in class I while the rest of the 27 advanced education organizations were considered autonomous under classification II foundations in the country.
