An initiative that aims at women’s freedom and her right to menstrual hygiene

Bengaluru: With a burgeoning need on spreading awareness on leading a hygienic life, 92.7 BIG FM Bengaluru has taken an extremely noble initiative of sanitation for the backbone of each family, “Women”! BIG MJ Shruti of Big Coffee fame along with her team, The BIG Coffee Brigade, initiated a campaign called #WingsforWomen, which symbolizes a woman’s freedom and her right to menstrual hygiene. It’s not just about educating the women, it goes further by executing a year long supply of sanitary napkins to them. When the world tries to shame the nation, we as responsible citizens aim to alleviate the situation.

The radio network has always aimed at addressing the social issues of our society and sensitized people about eradicating them from its core. To create awareness for BIG FM’s #WingsforWomen campaign, BIG MJ Shruti along with her team reached out to women at Kabadi Shankarsa & Co, a garment factory in West of Chord road, Rajajinagar who do not have the funds to prioritize menstrual hygiene. They distributed 45 sanitary napkins to each lady, that’ll help them sustain for the rest of the year 2018. Daughters of renowned film personalities Vijayalakshmi Singh and Jaijagadish, Vainidhi, Vaisiri and Vaibhavi were also seen lending their contribution to the campaign by distributing sanitary pads along with the BIG FM team.

MJ Shruti also led the campaign at Govt. First Grade College Malleswaram by distributing sanitary napkins to both female and male students, in an attempt to break the “men don’t talk about this” taboo. The idea is to break all mental barriers regarding the issue and educate the men as well, so every woman gets the much needed support to ensure a hygienic life. The event was presided by renowned Film Actor Vasishta Simha who shared a very painful personal experience of losing his near one to cervical cancer.

Speaking on the initiative, Actor Vasishta Simha said, “I am happy to be associated with a campaign that is aiming to educate women around the country on the importance of personal hygiene. It is our duty to help women around us who are unaware and educate them. It is a superb initiative by BIG FM and I hope many people follow the lead and join us to lend a hand to ensure the health and safety of every girl in the country.”

Speaking on the initiative, MJ Shruti from 92. 7 BIG FM said, “We are truly overwhelmed with all the sanitary pad contributions that are pouring in from all across the globe. I believe it is high time we take this issue seriously and spread adequate knowledge on its adverse effects. We at 92.7 BIG FM have started this initiative and urge people to help us continue this endeavor by spreading the word for the next leg of the campaign which is scheduled to be in May this year. More Environmental, Budget and Women friendly measures are taking wings in May.”
