Madikeri: Two persons including one minor were arrested by the police after district commissioner received an anonymous letter informing the rape of a minor girl.

The arrested have been identified as Manju (44), an employee of Ponnampete town bank and a 9th std student. They have been incarcerated under POCSO Act.

The father of the victim was an employee at Ponnampete town bank and had passed away a year back. Later, the job was given to the victim’s mother. It is being said that the accused Manju and the victim’s father were friends, due to which the accused used to frequent the victim’s residence.

One month back, Manju had visited the residence when the victim was alone at home. The villagers grew suspicious of this visit. After the visit, the girl’s behavior too had considerably changed which led to many assumptions about Manju throughout the village. But, the truth of the visit never surfaced.

Medical Test

On receiving information, the victim’s mother along with a relative took the victim to the government hospital at Virajpete where the medical test revealed that she was indeed been raped.

Truth unfolds before God

Though the girl was subject to counseling, she did not disclose the name of the rapist. It is said that she was later taken to a temple where she divulged the name of the rapist to her mother.

The officers brought the victim to the counseling centre after which they gave a written complaint to Ponnampete Police station.

Based on the complaint, the police arrested Manju and a 9th std student under POCSO Act.

DC received a letter

Two days back, an anonymous letter reached the district commissioner. It is said that the letter had information about the rape. In response to this letter, district commissioner P.I. Shrividya directed the officials of Child Line Foundation to take strict action against the accused.
