Districts vie for the top spot in SSLC results

Bengaluru: The SSLC results of the State not only decided the fate of the students, but also of the districts they belong to. The districts of the State witnessed a wave of change as their positions in the topper chart fluctuated, in accordance with the performance of its students. Udupi has retained the first place with a passing percent of 88.1%.
Yadgir has come down to a lower zone- with the pass percentage being 74.84% in 2017 and 35.54% in 2018. Gadag recorded a pass percentage of 67.52% The performance in Hassan improved surprisingly with a pass percentage of 84.68% Districts like Madhugiri, Belagavi and Tumakuru also recorded improvements in results.
Deputy Director of Public Instruction of Hassan, Manjunath, said that the district authorities were actively involved in assisting student performance by conducting remedial classes for slow learners and a radio phone-in programme for students. Certain schools which recorded a poor performance in 2017 were also placed under the tutelage of the officials of the Education Department. The school managements also maintained contact with the students’ mothers to discuss their progress and performance.
