All measures to ensure fair elections in place

Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil, City Police Commissioner Vipul Kumar, ZP CEO M R Ravi and SP Dr Ravikanth Gowda informed the press about various measures introduced for the smooth conduct of the Assembly elections, at a press conference on Thursday, May 10th.
The Deputy Commissioner said that over 5,000 people including polling officers, police officers and other personnel on election duty have cast their votes through postal ballots. Postal ballots have already been sent to 12,837 polling officers, 1,295 police officers and personnel and 43 drivers and other personnel deputed on election duty.
He also stated that a strict vigil is being maintained by the administration to ensure there is no malicious campaign on social media.
Staff
There are a total of 13,176 staff on duty in the polling booths in eight constituencies and 648 vehicles have been arranged to provide transport facilities to the polling officials to the booths and later to the de-mustering center after the elections.
KSRTC would be offering special bus services to 33 areas which do not have bus facility. 160 buses would be available in Sullia, Belthangady and Puttur, to ensure convenient travel of polling staff and transportation of EVMs.
Women voters outnumber men
There are a total of 17,11,848 voters in eight constituencies of the district including 8,70,675 women voters and 8,41,073 male voters.
The Deputy Commissioner said that surveys on the day of election from 7 am to 6.30 pm are banned.
The advertisements to be issued by the parties and candidates on May 11 and 12 have to be published only after scrutiny from the election committee.
SP Dr Ravikanthe Gowda and Police Commissioner Vipul Kumar informed that all necessary measures to ensure free and fair elections were in place. Anyone found disturbing the voting process would face strict action, they warned.
Additional DC Vaishali, DCP Hanumantharaya were also present at the press conference.
