Volunteers clean up Lalbagh area

Mangaluru: As part of the 30th Swachata Abhiyan of Ramakrishna Mission, volunteers cleaned up Lalbagh and nearby areas on Sunday, May 13.

Volunteers cleaned the footpath and the road from opposite to the Mangaluru City Corporation to Mangala stadium. Students of Nitte College of Physiotherapy took over the area from Sri Ramakrishna Girls’ Hostel and the road leading towards Lady Hill where they cleaned the roads and footpaths. Big cement concrete slabs on Lalbagh 5th Cross road which were causing inconvenience to pedestrians, were removed and the area was cleaned up.

The bust of Mahatma Gandhi which stands at the circle in front of Mangaluru City Corporation had been damaged in an accident. Taking help from masons the bust was repaired. Volunteers cleaned the triangular spots in the area and the bust later. The spots were decorated with flower pots and flower creepers.

Three bus shelters in Lalbagh area were cleaned as well. Volunteers painted direction boards of Officers Club, Lady Hill 5th Cross on the MG Road, and Lady Hill Road.

Other volunteers went around the area spreading awareness by distributing handbills on cleanliness awareness. They urged residents to keep their surroundings clean.
