Bengaluru: In another case of ‘suspected child-thief’, nine people were arrested in Bengaluru on Thursday morning for allegedly lynching a 26 year old man from Rajasthan on Wednesday afternoon. Kaluram was suspected to be a child kidnapper when he was wandering at Pension Mohalla in Chamrajpet.
Spurred by certain WhatsApp videos about the presence of child kidnappers in Bengaluru, a mob caught Kaluram, tied his hands and legs, and dragged him on the road while kicking and beating him with clubs and sticks. By the time police rushed to the spot, he was bleeding profusely and succumbed to his injuries on the way to Victoria Hospital. Police are still trying to recover information about his background and the purpose of his visit to the area.
DCP Ravi D. Chennannavar said that the incident occurred due to the widespread rumours on social media, warning people to be wary of child abductors. He clarified that there are no child kidnapping gangs in the city and requested people to not pay attention to such rumours.
