Petrol, diesel costly: Motorists suffer

Mangaluru: The prices of petrol and diesel are increasing by the day and motorists are bearing the burn.

On May 18th, petrol prices were 76.26 rupees which on May 25th rose to 78.48 rupees. Just in a week, the price has increased by 2.22 rupees. In the same way,, diesel price was 67.64 rupees on May 18th, but come May 25th, the prices by 1.74 rupees to 69.38 rupees.

More use of diesel

On daily usage, more diesel is used than petrol in Dakshina Kannada district. Hindustan Petroleum corporation outlets in the district sells 62,000 kilo liters of petrol and 1,53,000 kilo liters of diesel in the district daily. Likewise, Indianoil outlets in the district sell 190 thousand kilo liters of petrol and 550 thousand kilo liters of diesel daily.

80 rupees possibility

“The prices of petrol and diesel are increasing by the day. Already, the prices in some cities have reached to 80 rupees. In the coming few days, it won’t be surprising if the prices in the district rise to that level. The value increase in crude oil and dollar is the reason,” said Satish N. Kamath, president of D.K. Udupi petrol diesel association.

Loss for the motorist

“Today’s price of petrol and diesel will not be there tomorrow. Day to day it increases. Its direct result is on the motorists. Use of vehicles must be reduced as much as possible,” said Kartik Kumar an employee.

Alternative facility for vehicle users

  • Make more use of public transport.
  • Going by cycle is good for close distances.
  • Let there be a limit of vehicle usage.
  • Switch off the engine when in traffic to conserve fuel.
  • Use of electric vehicle to nearby places is optimum.
  • Good maintenance of vehicle engine increases milage.
  • Make use of sharing vehicles like Ola and Uber.
  • People going to the same place for work can start car pooling.

Petrol: 252 thousand kilo liter.

Diesel: 703 thousand kilo liter.
