‘Waste’ strike called back

Bengaluru: An inconclusive strike arranged by the waste transport vehicle proprietors and contractors since June 12 evening in the state capital was canceled after a discussion with Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G Parameshwar on the same night.
After discussion with the DCM, BBMP Cleanliness, Contractors’ and Lorry Owners’ Association General Secretary S N Balasubrahmanya stated, “The pending bills of the vehicle proprietors ought to be paid within a week. As there is no PF, they ought to cooperate with us and quit charging the sum from our account. We have additionally requested the minister and officials to take care of other issues of the workers.”
Amid the meeting, officials began giving a clarification that enough vehicles were not given to cleanliness, there was no proper response to works by BBMP, payments had been postponed because of election model code of conduct etc. It caused an argument between the association members and officials.
In any case, at last, both the parties consented to take care of the issues within seven days. In this way, waste transportation vehicles will fill in as normal from today, Balasubrahmanyam said.
