Bengaluru: Neelamani Raju, State Director General of Police (DGP) has instructed the police officials not to reveal every detail of the investigation to media as “they tend to glorify incidents”.
In a recent circular to the senior police officials, she said, “There is no need to give complete information of an investigation to media. Provide information just for the knowledge of the public.”
An official said that the DG-IP has warned, “Media houses report more on crime these days. As a response, they use the statement of the officials. In a few incidents, they prepare half or one-hour special programme based on the statements of officials. This affects the investigation. Now onwards no one should speak more with the media.”
“Maintaing privacy and secrecy is of utmost important. The media houses make thier own stories based on little information available. Secrecy of the information related to women and children is important,”
