Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat recognised around 51 gram panchayats and install waste burning units.

These units will prevent dumping of waster along highways and on roadside.

Such units have been installed in Kerala and I have seen their functioning, M R Ravi, CEO of the panchayat informed the 12th general meeting of the panchayati raj body on Monday, adding that Kukke-Subrahmanya gram panchayat has come forward to set up such a unit on its own.

Ravi said that, a detailed report will be produced soon. Dumping of garbage on the highway and roadside is particularly more in the gram panchayat limits of Mangaluru and Bantwal taluks, Ravi said.
