Paddy to be sown on 59,650 hectares

Mandya: Kharif cropping have started over the region with Cauvery waters being released into canals. The Department of Agriculture has settled an objective of 2,01,869 hectares of kharif cultivation and the cultivating network has finished the sowing of 23,000 hectares as on Monday.
The division has set an objective of sowing paddy on 59,650 hectares, ragi on 63,365 hectares, and sugarcane on 30,605 hectares for the ebb and flow season, M.N. Rajasulochana, Joint Director, Agriculture Department, revealed to The Hindu.
The objective for foodgrains in the locale for the current season is 1,66,519 hectares, while oil seeds is 8,708 hectares, said the authority.
Substantial rains lashed all the seven taluks — Mandya, Maddur, Malavalli, Pandavapura, Srirangapatna, K.R. Pet, and Nagamanagala — on numerous events since the end of May, enabling farmers to set up their lands. They have additionally finished de-weeding works over the district.
The Visvesvaraya trench, Chikka Devaraya Canal, Virija waterway, Bangara Doddi channel, Right Bank Low Level (RBLL) and Left Bank Low Level (LBLL) are a portion of the significant canals that have been irrigating the lands, and the division has been releasing water from the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) for past few days.
