Mangaluru: With the city police initiating action against vehicles parked outside the Milagres Hall on the busy Falnir Road, the weekly phone-in programme received a barrage of complaints regarding such instances of haphazard parking at various locations in the city, on Friday, July 13th.
Action was sought against visitors to the Adka Community hall in Baikampady Industrial Area who parked their vehicles on the road, by a caller from Baikampady. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya responded to the complaint and directed the jurisdictional police to book cases against community hall management, under IPC Section 283 of the Indian Penal Code (Danger or obstruction in the pubic way or line of navigation).
Responding to a complaint from a caller from Thokkottu on the obstruction of traffic on the National Highway 66 near Unity Hall in Thokkottu due to the haphazard parking of vehicles by guests to the hall, DCP Hanumantharaya replied that police was in talks with NHAI to ease traffic movement on the stretch.
There were also complaints accusing the police of harassing motorists by locking vehicle wheels that obstruct traffic movement. A caller from Karangalpady complained against the police for locking the wheels of his parked car near Karangalpady Market and explained that he was compelled to park his vehicle there due to absence of any designated parking space near the market.
Complaints against buses
A caller complained that the buses plying between State Bank and Neermarga were charging excess fare while another caller informed that the buses plying between Mangaluru and Kateel were not issuing tickets.
