Customs seize 1.5kg gold at MIA

Bajpe: 1.5kg gold worth Rs. 45 lakh was seized by customs officials at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) on Friday. The gold was found concealed inside four emergency lanterns from four passengers arriving from Dubai on August 3rd.
As per sources, all four passengers from Kasaragod arrived to MIA from Dubai in the 5 am Air India Express flight. While scanning their luggage, the customs officials grew suspicious of the four emergency lanterns each in their luggage. The lanterns were checked and the gold concealed within was revealed. The officials seized the gold and detained the culprits for further questioning.
Since January till July, the customs officials have so far seized contraband gold of 22.97 kgs valued at Rs. 7.06 crore.
