Mangaluru: A woman has reportedly accused City Crime Branch (CCB) inspector Shantaram and others of abetting her husband’s alleged suicide. Gayathri (33), wife of the deceased Venkataramana from Puttur, alleges that following mental and physical harassment by the CCB inspector and his team, her husband committed suicide on August 4th.
According to Gayathri, her husband and three others had started a partnership firm by pooling money and investing a total of Rs. 19 lakh into the business. She alleged that the other three partners took over the business soon after and sidelined her husband. However, the business soon incurred losses and the partners tried to recover money from her husband by using the CCB, she said.
In a petition to the city police commissioner, the victim’s wife Gayathri, has charged Shantaram, City Crime Branch inspector of Mangaluru city police, and his team with abetting the suicide.
“The team led by Shantaram started harassing my husband both physically and mentally. They also assaulted Venkataramana many times. Dejected by this inhuman treatment, he committed suicide,” she said.
Mangaluru city police commissioner T R Suresh has informed that a case has been registered and that a probe into the matter is being conducted. Necessary action would be taken against the accused policemen if their involvement was proven, he assured.
