Bagalkote techie-turned-lawyer gets convicted in cyber-crime case

Bagalkote: A Bagalkote techie, who quit his job to become a lawyer in order to defend himself in a cyber-crime case was, on Friday, sentenced to two years in jail after a decade-long legal battle. Notably, this is the first-ever conviction related a cyber crime in the state
The man, identified as Shivaprasad Sajjan was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by a woman way back in 2008. In her complaint, the woman had accused Sajjan of sending obscene and derogatory emails to her and obscene photographs (of her) to various people from a cyber cafe.
Later after being released on bail Sajjan quit his job as a software engineer and became a criminal lawyer to defend himself in the case.
“Sajjan used all possible legal loopholes to drag the case for ten years, but could not prevent his conviction,” said a cyber police official after the court ruling.
Apart from a two-year jail sentence, Sajjan will have to pay a fine of Rs. 25,000.
