Karkala: The Karkala Rural Police on Monday, September 17 arrested three persons on charges of tampering with the evidence that led to the death of a woman and disposing of her body in a nearby well.

John (57) of Kadandale, Sunil (30) of Sachcharipete and Padmanabha (42) of Mundkur are the arrested.

The deceased woman identified as Girija of Mundkur village was working as a helper at Ram Restaurant.

On September 8 evening, Girija was on her way to her brother’s house, after her work hours when she accidentally stepped on a live wire and was electrocuted to death on the spot. The trio, who had laid the wire to trap wild boars, upon coming to know of her death rushed to the spot and dumped her body into an adjoining well to destroy the evidence. Two days later, they are said to have removed the body from the well and disposed of it by the roadside near Kanthavara here. A passerby alerted the police about the body found lying here.

The accused will be produced before the court on Wednesday, September 19.
