Bengaluru: A 31-year-old woman committed suicide by setting herself ablaze, on Thursday, after being rebuked by her husband for the tasteless curry prepared by her.

The deceased, Jayalakshmi took the extreme step on Thursday evening around 5.30 pm when her children were playing nearby.

According to the police, she bolted the door of the residence, doused kerosene on herself and set herself afire. Her children, who returned home in a while alerted the neighbours after repeated knocks failed to get any response from Jayalakshmi.

The neighbours who were shocked to see her in flames, upon peeping through a window, called the police.

Reportedly the couple hail from Raichur and had come down to Bengaluru in search of employment.

A police complaint filed by Jayalakshmi’s parents alleges ill-treatment by Nagaraj towards their daughter.

The police have detained her husband for questioning.
